Unemployment Deferment: What you need to know

Today, I’d like to fill you in on a little-known fact that may help you with your student loan debt repayment:

You don’t have to be unemployed, to qualify for Unemployment Deferment on your federal loans!

In other words, even if you have a job, you can still qualify for unemployment deferment on your federal loans.

According to the regulations established by the U.S. Department of Education, as long as you are working less than 30 hours per week, you can qualify for unemployment deferment.

The only other requirements are that:

a) you are seeking employment in all areas
b) you are registered with an employment agency

That’s it. And the unemployment deferment form itself is simple:

You fill out your name, phone number, address, social security number, sign and date it and… that’s it.

Absolutely no supporting documentation is required.
